How to Get Prayers Answered?
1. Faith Is the Foundation of Effective Prayer
Faith is the bedrock of answered prayer. Hebrews 11:6 tells us, “And without faith, it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
Faith is not just believing that God can answer prayers but trusting in His timing, His methods, and His ultimate wisdom. When you pray, ask yourself:
- Do I truly believe God hears me?
- Am I trusting in God’s ability to act, even when the situation seems hopeless?
For example, if you are praying for healing, stand firmly on the Bible’s promises. Isaiah 53:5 says, “But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed.”
2. Pray in Alignment With God’s Will
God’s will is sovereign, and aligning your prayers with His purpose is key to effective communication with Him. John 5:14–15 assures us, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him.”
To align your prayers with God’s will:
- Seek guidance through Scripture to understand His promises and character.
- Pray to discern His will, asking Him to mold your desires to reflect His purposes for your life.
- Trust that even if His answer doesn’t look like what you expected, His plan is always for your good (Romans 8:28).
3. Be Persistent in Prayer
Jesus teaches the importance of persistence in prayer through the parable of the persistent widow in Luke 18. The widow’s unwavering determination shows how persistence moves the heart of God.
Don’t give up, even if you don’t see an immediate response. God’s timing is often different from ours, but His delays are not denials. Keep bringing your petitions before Him with a steadfast heart, trusting that He hears every word.
Practical Steps for Persistent Prayer:
- Set aside time daily to present your petitions to God.
- Keep a prayer journal to track your prayers and how God answers them over time.
- Surround yourself with fellow believers who can pray and stand in agreement with you (Matthew 18:20).
4. Pray for Healing With Boldness
Healing, both physical and emotional, is a theme that appears repeatedly in Scripture. When praying for healing, approach God with boldness and faith. 1 Peter 2:24 reminds us, “He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by His wounds you have been healed.”
When praying for healing:
- Believe that God is still in the miracle-working business.
- Speak the promises of God over the situation, declaring health, restoration, and wholeness.
- Trust His purpose, whether the healing is immediate, gradual, or spiritual.
5. Cultivate a Lifestyle of Gratitude and Worship
A heart of gratitude is a heart full of faith. Philippians 4:6–7 encourages us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
When you approach prayer with thanksgiving, it shifts your focus from what you lack to the goodness and faithfulness of God. Worship also strengthens your connection with Him, opening your spirit to His voice.
Try opening your prayer time with worship or ending it with a moment of thanksgiving for what He has done and will do.
6. Be Open to God’s Answers
Sometimes, God’s answers don’t match our expectations. His “yes” may bring immediate joy, His “no” may redirect us to something greater, and His “wait” often builds our faith and character.
Trusting Him fully means surrendering control and believing that His ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8–9). Ask God for the strength to trust Him, even when you don’t understand His plan.
