PRAYER arrow FAQs arrow Does Prayer Really Work?
Hear, O Lord, my righteous plea;
listen to my cry.
Give ear to my prayer-
it does not rise from deceitful lips
I call on you, O God, for you will answer me;
give ear to me and hear my prayer.

Some people claim that prayer DOES NOT work. These people are termed "non-believers".

Some people claim that prayer DOES work. These people are termed "believers".

In my younger, more adventurous days, I used to race motorcycles and racing cars. Like every other community event, the race began with a prayer. Why? It's really very simple: We were going in harm's way. We asked for God's blessing to protect us from harm.

Before every school day, we had a prayer. Before every high school football game, we had an invocation. Before every auto race, ditto. Before the legislature met, the speech was given, the concert began, there was a prayer.

Every military unit has at least one Chaplain, and every military campaign, or even a training exercise, began with a prayer.

Whenever we did something collectively, we began with a prayer that God would guide both our bodies and our minds, keeping us from harm, and keeping us from doing stupid things.

The core of our belief system says that there is a God in Heaven, that God hears prayers, and answers them.

To someone who believes these things, praying is as natural as breathing, and at least as important.

Have there been times in your life where you felt to be at rock bottom and all of a sudden out of nowhere felt uplifted or things flipped to a positive outcome for seemingly no reason at all?

I surely have! I wonder how many times prayers have touched our lives from people we know and even from people we don't know who live somewhere far away. Prayer does make a difference!
